Life began in Far North Queensland for this folkie, but as a classically trained singer. Paula Standing tread the boards in musicals, operettas and choirs. After moving to SA, she began to explore new genres and eventually started penning her own songs. But recording only began in 2010 after teaching herself guitar. Swayed by the greats, EmmyLou Harris, Gillian Welch, John Prine and Joni Mitchell, Paula was drawn to the world of Folk with an old country twist.
Following redundancy in 2013 Paula fell head long into a full time music career, even taking the time to study Music Business. Releasing a new single ‘Running Away’ in 2014, marked a turning point. This collaboration with other musicians produced a new direction for her as a solo artist. In 2015, Paula began recording new material, adding layers of local talent to produce an extraordinary new album, ‘All Fun & Games’. Don’t be fooled by the title, somebody really does ‘lose an eye’. Always watch out for the sting in that tale.
After a year of hard slog, Paula is about to release some exciting new works. The EP Good Heart offers six brand new songs with three planned single releases, starting with ‘Pity Me. Plus a secret bonus track of a previously released single just in time for Christmas ‘I Tried To Write A Christmas Song’.
